Research in the field of ethnic politics is especially important in the context of Latin America, a region that continues to struggle with the incorporation and increasing participation of ethnic minorities, particularly Indigenous peoples, in the regional and national political arenas. Unfortunately, the correct approach to ethnicity research remains an unresolved contention between the Primordialist and Constructivist models. This study takes a crack at resolving this issue by empirically examining the effects of immigration on ethnic-linguistic fractionalization in 20 Latin American countries. The results indicate that immigrant ethnic identities are both fluid and endogenous, thereby validating the Constructivist model. ___________________________________________________________________________
